Why World War I naval aviation disappears from general histories

Western Front narratives and Jutland's prominence can crowd out the wider naval war, leaving World War I aviation absent from popular accounts that begin with Pearl Harbor and Midway.

Notes

General histories have limited space and therefore concentrate on the Western Front as the war's principal effort. Within naval history, Jutland can similarly eclipse Coronel, Dogger Bank, the Falklands, and operations around the world's coasts. Naval aviation is especially vulnerable to this compression, because popular accounts often jump directly to Pearl Harbor, Midway, and the Pacific island campaign. The omission is not necessarily bad history, but it becomes misleading when readers never move beyond the introductory narrative. This compression helps explain why extensive World War I naval-air experience can feel unfamiliar despite its importance to later doctrine.
