Wellesley's command system is associated here with a strong interest in intelligence, engineering, and logistics. The aside groups these functions together as areas he pushed, extending the earlier discussion of his specialised staff. It does not describe a particular organisation or establish the size of an intelligence section. The passage supports the limited claim that technical and information work formed part of Wellesley's command priorities.
