If France remains in the war, Britain and the United States do not need to build up for a cross-Channel return to the continent. Troops and supplies can sail directly into working French ports. That removes much of the landing-craft production, amphibious training, and staging problem associated with Operation Overlord. The force historically sent to Operation Torch becomes an early large reinforcement wave landing in France rather than North Africa.
