Why 35,000 tons excludes the emerging postwar generation

Hood and the designs being developed after the war show why a limit suited to existing ships constrains their intended successors.

Notes

Hood's standard displacement is 41,200 tons, while many new capital-ship designs approach 40,000 tons. Most older British ships remain well below the treaty ceiling, including Tiger. A 35,000-ton limit therefore fits the inherited fleet better than the ships being designed around wartime experience. The Washington Cherries are the lost generation cancelled under those limits. Completing that generation is the central material change explored in the delayed-treaty scenario.
