Warship plans and HMAS Diamantina

Builder's plans make unfamiliar warship designs easier to read, and preserved HMAS Diamantina lets visitors examine a rare River-class frigate at full scale.

Notes

John Roberts's British Warships of the Second World War Detailed in the Original Builders' Plans is a practical reference for unfamiliar ship designs. The plans help reconstruct how a vessel fits together before seeing it in person. HMAS Diamantina, preserved at the Queensland Maritime Museum, is a River-class frigate rather than a corvette like HMCS Sackville. Since most River-class frigates were scrapped, Diamantina offers a rare surviving example. The museum operates as a charity with virtually no government support, so public support matters to the ship's preservation. Studying the builder's plans before visiting helps connect the drawings with a surviving wartime ship at full scale.
