Question

Which warship designs under development in 2020 looked most promising?

Short answer

The Type 26 family and several Franco-Italian frigate concepts appealed to him, while contemporary German designs did not.

Notes

The Type 26 family and its national variants lead this survey of ships under development. Several Franco-Italian frigate designs and other smaller combatants also receive favourable comments. Contemporary German concepts fare worse on appearance and design direction. These were personal design preferences in June 2020 rather than judgements based on the ships' later service records.
