Warship data spines use redundant transmission paths

A paper describing fibre and copper redundancy is followed by a domestic Cat 7 example showing the installation cost of tough, stiff cabling.

Question

Do modern warships use fiber-optic data spines or copper cabling for survivability?

Short answer

They can use both, preserving redundant paths and different cable properties against damage.

Notes

One previously read open-source paper described using both fibre and copper paths for resilience against damage. That limited example supports the case for redundant transmission paths without establishing one arrangement across all warships. A separate domestic Cat 7 installation illustrates a physical tradeoff: shielding makes the cable tough, but also stiff and difficult to route around bends. The preference for that cable originated in conversations with shipbuilders. The domestic example is not evidence that a particular warship uses Cat 7. Data-cable choices therefore involve installation and physical resilience as well as capacity.
