Exposed iron plating and frames near Warrior's machinery spaces show how her hull was riveted together. Inside, an overhead railway moved coal trucks towards the boilers. At high speed, the movement of coal and the stokers' shoveling would have been almost continuous. The boilers were advanced for their time but inefficient, so maintaining power required large quantities of fuel. Mechanical assistance moved coal in volumes that the crew could not otherwise handle fast enough.
