The 68-pounder and Warrior's varied ammunition

An inexpensive, familiar smoothbore could fire several kinds of ammunition, including a shell filled with molten iron.

Notes

Warrior carried the familiar cast-iron 68-pounder muzzle-loading smoothbore alongside newer weapons. At roughly £167 per gun, it was an inexpensive weapon that could be produced in quantity. It fired solid shot, explosive shell, grape, case, and Martin's thin-walled shell filled with molten iron for use as heated shot. Warrior also served as a platform for trying new projectiles. The four ammunition examples displayed aboard represent the variety and storage arrangements, without showing every type she carried.
