Why warfare demands adaptable aircraft types

Efficiency favors one common aircraft, but the chaos of war rewards distinct platforms optimized for strike, air defense, and other missions.

Notes

Adaptability helps armed forces manage uncertainty. Military organizations impose order through training, but war remains controlled chaos whose demands cannot be forecast perfectly. Flexible weapons cannot erase every physical tradeoff in the platform carrying them. A strike-oriented bomb truck and an air-defense fighter can each be adaptable within their mission while remaining optimized for different tasks. The Intruder represents the practical capability retained when a navy prepares for difficult war instead of assuming peacetime efficiency will solve every contingency.
