War Plan Red and two-ocean geography

The American two-ocean problem becomes more severe when Britain surrounds the Panama Canal and controls the Caribbean approaches.

Notes

The United States has Atlantic and Pacific fleets linked by the Panama Canal, but Britain controls much of Central America and the Caribbean. The canal is therefore a vulnerable connector rather than a complete answer to divided naval geography. American ships remain capable, yet concentrating them across two oceans becomes dangerous when the opposing empire holds nearby territory and ports. The much larger British global fleet compounds that geographic problem.
