The replacement concept, nicknamed Armageddon, begins far overweight and is deliberately treated as a top-down requirements exercise. Its initial displacement is so excessive that the design must shed tens of thousands of tons before becoming usable. The game's 18-inch guns unexpectedly show much less range than the 16.5-inch option, so that simulation-specific result reinforces the move to the smaller caliber. Speed, protection systems, armor, and other features are then reduced while the main-battery arrangement improves. Starting with an unconstrained ideal reveals the cost of each requirement before the designer chooses which capabilities to surrender.
