Foreign and postwar Walrus service

Modified Soviet aircraft, Argentine cruiser service, French training, and civilian whaling work show how widely the adaptable Walrus traveled.

Notes

Walruses were sent to the Soviet Union with 20 mm cannon for use against German submarines, showing how operators could adapt the airframe to different requirements. Argentina flew the type from its cruisers until 1958. French naval aviation also used Walruses for training, extending the aircraft's service beyond its British wartime roles. After the war, some examples entered civilian whaling work, including use by a Dutch company. These assignments suited a flexible utility and patrol platform rather than a narrowly optimized combat aircraft.
