The simulated American battleship quickly builds a much greater volume of fire than the Incomparable model. Increasing the number of ships only makes that imbalance worse. Once the slower opponent has ranged successfully, the battlecruiser cannot outrun shells already in flight. Incomparable could try to disengage before accepting battle, but its enormous guns might tempt a commander to fight instead. The simulated result supports the warning that nominal calibre does not compensate for too few barrels, slow ranging, and inadequate protection.

Volume of fire defeats the Incomparable model
The repeated game engagement illustrates why a fast, lightly protected ship cannot rely on speed after a slower battleship's larger battery has established the range.
