Vikrant's local-content figure needs context

India estimates Vikrant's indigenous content at 76 percent, and Cochin Shipyard credits the program with demand across steel, electrical and mechanical equipment, infrastructure and services. Roughly 550 Indian vendors participated, including about 100 medium and small enterprises. That percentage needs qualification because some equipment counted as local was licensed, incorporated imported products, or was mainly assembled in India. Domestic steel production provides a more concrete example of a capability that can support future warships. The industrial base also gained experience supplying materials and equipment to modern naval standards. Designers, shipbuilders and other participants acquired practical knowledge and confidence in carrying out complex warship projects at scale.
