Victorious expands fighter direction before crossing the Atlantic

A British yard enlarges Victorious's aircraft direction room before American work adapts the carrier for Pacific service.

Notes

Victorious, later known informally as USS Robin, entered a British yard in September 1942. Earlier British ships had already travelled to America for major refits. Her aircraft direction room was enlarged and given more control positions, incorporating technology and lessons from wartime carrier operations. The work strengthened a capability that would matter greatly in the Pacific. Fighter control became one of her most useful contributions there, alongside the American alterations to her aircraft-handling equipment.
