The rapid-firing Vickers 3-pounder

The Vickers 3-pounder combined a high rate of fire with useful anti-surface performance and later anti-aircraft adaptability.

Notes

The semi-automatic vertical-block breech allowed about twenty rounds per minute, making the weapon useful against fast, lightly built targets. In the surface role it could reach roughly 5,600 yards at twelve degrees elevation. Its theoretical anti-aircraft ceiling was much higher than the effective anti-aircraft range of about 2,000 yards. The gun's compact size, reliability, and adaptability kept examples in service for decades and complemented the heavier 4-inch counter-destroyer battery.
