Why helicopter insertion does not replace vehicle mobility

Aircraft can insert a light force quickly, but vehicles carry its equipment and give it a practical route out of a contested urban area.

Notes

Moving troops to an objective differs from giving the unit organic mobility after it lands. Helicopters can provide rapid insertion, overwatch, and fire support, but they carry limited equipment and can be difficult to use for extraction from a contested urban area. Ground vehicles give the force a way to move its stores and withdraw while helicopters protect the route and clear threats above it. Mogadishu supports the case for giving a light force ground transport and a planned extraction method as well as helicopters.
