Both Lion and Vanguard were rapid-construction choices built around familiar industrial resources. Vanguard could use reconditioned 15-inch guns and turrets supported by a production and maintenance line that had operated for nearly 25 years. Lion required new 16-inch guns and triple turrets, but they came from a mature development line rather than an exotic design. Each route tried to renew the fleet quickly by drawing on a different part of Britain's existing maritime infrastructure. Vanguard reused an established equipment lineage, while Lion turned advanced development work into new construction.
