Why V-1 launchers do not belong on Scharnhorst

The V-1 conversion faces incompatible service dates, extensive deck requirements, and a weapon unsuited to attacking ships.

Question

What changes if Germany removes Scharnhorst's after turret and installs V-1 launch platforms?

Short answer

The launcher, handling spaces, cranes, and missiles would consume much more than one turret position while adding an inaccurate land-attack weapon and a dangerous explosive load.

Notes

The proposal first encounters a timing problem: V-1s were unavailable while Scharnhorst and Gneisenau were operational. Even if that obstacle is set aside, the launch ramp, loading equipment, and crane space would consume much of the after part of a ship. A V-1 could be aimed broadly at a city but could not attack another ship effectively. The conversion would sacrifice naval gunpower while putting a dangerous quantity of explosive material aboard.
