Full U.S. neutrality shifts more of the burden to Canada

Ending American aid before Pearl Harbor would make Canadian supplies and logistics more important, though the largest historical Lend-Lease flows came after U.S. entry.

Question

What if the United States remained completely neutral and provided no Lend-Lease aid before Pearl Harbor?

Short answer

Britain would rely more heavily on Canadian supplies and logistics, but the loss would be smaller than later Lend-Lease totals imply.

Notes

A fully neutral United States would remove useful pre-Pearl Harbor support and slow parts of the British war effort. Canada would have to carry more of the supply and logistics burden. The enormous Lend-Lease totals of 1942-45 should not be projected backward into 1940 and early 1941. The effect before American entry would be real but smaller than a comparison with the later wartime program might suggest.
