The attacking army is dominated by javelin troops and archers, with only one spear unit able to protect it from cavalry. Defending the city allows constrained movement to be exploited in a kill box that would be much harder to arrange in open ground or against a human opponent. Infantry fixes and contains the enemy while cavalry attacks the exposed formation. Terrain and fortifications can therefore compensate for force disadvantages, although the computer opponent permits unrealistic liberties.

Urban defenses channel attackers into kill zones
A city defense shows how walls, restricted approaches, infantry, and cavalry can combine to funnel a missile-heavy attacker into a kill zone.
