After work to restore more of her intended support configuration, Unicorn sailed east with Illustrious, Renown, Queen Elizabeth, Valiant, and other reinforcements. She operated aircraft during the passage but also transported a large reserve of stored machines. While supporting the Eastern Fleet in 1944, she underwent further work at Bombay. Separate tools and fittings were installed for American engines, screw threads, and electrical systems alongside British equipment. That adaptability allowed a single ship to maintain aircraft arriving through both British and American supply systems before she transferred to the British Pacific Fleet.
