Can a warship really remain uncrewed at sea?

Designers may aim for no permanent crew, but ships will still need visiting maintainers and safe helicopter access.

Question

Will future uncrewed warships truly have no crew, or only a very small crew?

Short answer

Designers may aim for no permanent crew, but ships will still need visiting maintainers and safe helicopter access.

Notes

An uncrewed vessel may still need people aboard temporarily when machinery fails. Crewed ships could carry maintenance teams and send them out to the uncrewed craft. That makes access for repair personnel part of the design even without a resident crew. A helicopter landing area is advocated as a way of getting those teams aboard.
