The vulnerable link in a naval drone force

A drone mothership's payload capacity is only useful if its air and underwater vehicles can communicate or operate autonomously under interference.

Question

Do events in Ukraine suggest that naval UAV data links are more vulnerable than expected?

Short answer

Communications will always be a vulnerable part of uncrewed operations, and resilient control methods will depend on the opponent and mission.

Notes

The communications path is an inherent exposure rather than a temporary design flaw. Jamming, interception, and disruption become more demanding against technologically capable states. Designers must decide how much autonomy, relay capacity, and fallback behavior each vehicle needs. This command-and-control constraint matters as much as the number of drones carried by Type 26.
