Missile ships and planet-bomb interception in the Yamato scenario

Earth's existing beam weapons are treated as ineffective against Garmillas line combatants, while its missiles can still destroy the ordinary warships sent against it. Physical shells offer another usable weapon, so the proposed emergency design combines large missile batteries with conventional or dual-mode guns. Missiles remain the primary armament, with guns serving a secondary role. The first ships would patrol Earth and concentrate their fire on the enormous planet bombs before attempting offensive fleet operations. This imposes a demanding construction priority because stopping meteor-sized objects requires much more firepower than defeating an ordinary ship.
