Four accounts give substantially different names for the ships sent to Corfu. Spanish practice offers one possible comparison: a warship could have a devotional name, a commonly used name, and a shortened version of the devotional name. That example does not resolve the conflicting Russian and Ottoman lists. The approximate totals are more secure: six Russian ships of the line and six frigates, with six Ottoman ships of the line and five frigates.

Why Corfu's fleet lists remain uncertain
Conflicting ship lists and variant naming make the combined fleet easier to count than to identify vessel by vessel.
