Newer 6-inch guns can outperform older 10-inch weapons. The smaller battery produces a much greater volume of fire and benefits from better accuracy. In this comparison it also has useful range because naval engineering has advanced between the two weapon generations. Calibre alone cannot show which gun will be more effective when rate of fire, accuracy, and range also differ.
