What capabilities would suit a future Type 83 destroyer?
Short answerA large, heavily armed air-defence ship with deep and distributed missile magazines, multiple gun layers, close-in weapons, and directed-energy systems.
NotesThe notional fit grows from Type 45 into two large missile groups combining A50 and Mk 41 cells, with separate Sea Ceptor batteries around the hull. Medium guns, close-in systems, lasers, and a larger main gun add layers of defence, while deep magazines keep the ship valuable without at-sea VLS reloading. This is a personal design preference rather than an approved Royal Navy plan.
