Air-defence command needs room for staff and supporting missions

Aircraft coordination, an estimated thirty-person command staff, and supporting missions add requirements beyond Type 83's weapons.

Notes

Type 83 is envisaged as an air and missile-defence command ship coordinating aircraft as well as other ships. A commodore and battle staff add roughly thirty people in the estimate given here, compared with twenty shown on the concept graphic. Boarding operations, maritime security, humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, and noncombatant evacuation add further demands. Control of uncrewed systems and defence against torpedoes belong in the same requirements list. The command role needs accommodation and facilities beyond the radar and missile battery.
