When a proposed Type 45 missile upgrade becomes real

Parliamentary discussion of extra missile cells is not the same as a funded, installed Type 45 capability.

Question

Had the Royal Navy confirmed that Type 45 destroyers would receive sixteen Mk 41 vertical-launch cells?

Short answer

Not at the time of the stream. Parliamentary comments existed, but a Ministry of Defence announcement, a budget, and installed equipment were still needed before treating the upgrade as real.

Notes

A proposal for sixteen Mk 41 cells alongside Sea Ceptor would materially enlarge the Type 45 destroyer's missile fit. Parliamentary discussion alone did not establish that the upgrade was committed. Official funding and hardware aboard the ships would provide decisive evidence. A defense announcement becomes credible when the budget, contract, and installation follow the proposal.
