Type 31 as a hub for uncrewed systems

Six container positions, command space and helicopter support could make Type 31 the centre of a formation that includes large uncrewed surface vessels.

Notes

Type 31's room for six twenty-foot equivalent container units could house control modules for large uncrewed surface vessels. Romulus 190 is the example introduced for this role. Container space would support the communications and other systems needed to operate such craft. The frigate's command spaces and ability to sustain large helicopters could also help coordinate and support them. The forecast is that a crewed warship will become the centre of its own small formation of uncrewed assets. This is a proposed direction for operations, rather than a claim that such a formation is already deployed.
