The historical Type 23's maximum beam of 16 m provides the starting point for considering 3.5 m-wide modules. A counterfactual design could accommodate six positions forward, although their arrangement might require a slightly longer ship. Two further positions for torpedoes would bring the total to eight, with one or two near hangar level offering space for additional weapons. The navy could therefore choose six, eight, or ten slots when designing the hull. Those positions would not all need weapons immediately: boats and blank modules could occupy some while the ship retained its towed array and forward missiles. Five eight-round Sea Wolf modules would provide a forty-missile fit for a deployment that required it.

Designing six to ten module positions into Type 23
A redesigned Type 23 could have six forward module slots and further positions near the torpedoes and hangar, with some initially carrying boats or blank modules.
