Type 23 missile capacity and the reloading problem

The Type 23's 32 cells are compared with a cited 48-cell frigate requirement and the inability to reload at sea.

Notes

A cited frigate study calls for 48 launch cells, compared with the 32 carried by Type 23 ships. That shortfall motivates a proposal for another sixteen Sea Wolf cells. Suggested positions include groups of eight near either side of the hangar. The extra cells are hypothetical design alternatives, with their installation treated as feasible rather than prohibitively difficult or expensive. Inability to reload vertical-launch missiles at sea makes the initial magazine allowance more consequential.
