Britain would probably retain the Type 23's 4.5-inch gun in the modular design. An additional 3-inch or 76 mm gun could provide more firepower on an amphibious deployment. A position near hangar level is suggested, with the explicit condition that the hull would have to be designed to accommodate it. The extra gun could engage another land target at the same time or deal with boats. The Italian 76/62 Compact already supplies a suitable module option, and its use could encourage Italian participation. British-French-Italian cooperation during the period makes that extension of the project plausible.

Additional Type 23 guns for amphibious support
A supplementary 76 mm gun could support landings and counter boats, provided the Type 23 design allowed for its proposed position.
