Public sources disagree over whether every Type 052D cell and batch has the same depth. One suggested arrangement puts longer strike cells forward and shorter tactical cells aft, but that remains uncertain. A single class name does not guarantee identical equipment: the eight postwar Daring destroyers are cited as having four electrical configurations while AC, DC, and different voltages were tested. Type 052D batches could similarly favor air defence, heavier strike weapons, or short-range protection close to a carrier. The available HHQ-9, YJ-18, land-attack, and anti-submarine missiles show the range of possible loads.

Type 052D cell depths may vary between batches
Uncertain VLS cell depths and successive batches may produce Type 052Ds optimized for different missions, just as one historical class could contain several equipment configurations.
