Detection, speed, and two torpedo-evasion turns

Sonar warning and 36-knot speed do not save a cruiser that turns across the torpedo tracks, while a later passage sets out the choices of turning away or toward the weapon.

Notes

A 36-knot cruiser has sonar and enough warning to escape an incoming spread, yet the automated turn carries it across the torpedo tracks. A later explanation gives two basic options: turn away and try to outrun the weapon, or turn toward it and cross clear of its path. Detection alone does not choose the safe manoeuvre. Timing, relative speed, and attack geometry decide whether warning becomes survival. Both examples come from game engagements, so they illustrate the decision problem without claiming a universal real-world turn.
