Turret arcs, armour layout, and damage resilience

Widely usable turret arcs can justify a longer hull, while turret placement may also affect how torpedo-blast energy travels through its structure.

Notes

The proposed arrangement lets each main turret rotate through a full circle, a useful feature in a confused close-range action. A turret can train toward a new threat by the shorter route instead of rotating almost completely around the ship. Spreading the armament lengthens the hull and reduces the concentration of heavy weapons. Drawing on discussion of HMS Prince of Wales's loss, the analysis also suggests that a large armoured turret structure can interrupt the hull. That barrier may keep torpedo-blast energy concentrated in one section instead of allowing it to dissipate more widely. This remains one design consideration alongside firing arcs rather than a complete damage-control analysis.
