Japanese and German aircraft over Tsingtao

The siege brought Japanese seaplane operations and Germany's lone Taube into an early experiment with aerial reconnaissance and bombing.

Notes

Aircraft from the Japanese seaplane carrier supported the siege and carried out several early aviation milestones, including a raid identified here as the first night bombing raid. The German garrison could field only one Taube, flown by Gunther Plüschow for reconnaissance and improvised attacks on the blockading force. Plüschow also claimed a pistol victory over a Japanese Farman aircraft, though the account presents it as a claim rather than an uncontested result. On 6 November he escaped Tsingtao with the governor's final dispatches, which then reached Berlin through neutral diplomatic channels.
