A Trieste-type ship as the task group's helicopter hub

A well-armed amphibious aviation ship could carry the task group's helicopters and coordinate anti-submarine warfare, freeing a Queen Elizabeth-class carrier to concentrate on strike and air defense.

Notes

The Trieste design combines a large aviation deck with a meaningful self-defense battery, including 76 mm guns and Sylver vertical-launch cells. In a Queen Elizabeth-class task group, many of the helicopters could move to the amphibious ship. That vessel could then coordinate anti-submarine warfare and other rotary-wing tasks. The fleet carrier would recover deck and hangar capacity for its principal strike and air-defense aircraft, creating a division of labor across two complementary flight decks.
