Why rival navies might converge on the British compromise

Britain's proposed balance of American-style protection and near-Japanese speed could push all three navies toward similar fast-battleship designs.

Notes

The first British treaty generation is expected to combine armour comparable to the American ships with speed close to the Japanese designs. Japan would see a rival retaining substantial protection without surrendering most of its speed, while the United States would see similar protection paired with much higher speed. Both comparisons create pressure to reconsider their initial design priorities. Over time, all three navies are expected to adopt related all-forward layouts as they seek speed, firepower and protection within the same tonnage system.
