Trafalgar's order of battle is a strategic snapshot

The fleets at Trafalgar reveal national priorities, but they were only the forces each navy could bring together at that moment.

Notes

Trafalgar's order of battle gives a partial view of British, French, and Spanish naval power. Ships were dispersed across the world, detained in port, or absent because of command decisions. Some French ships were trapped in northern ports, while others in southern France lacked crews to take them to sea. Spanish vessels were distributed across a global empire. The forces at Trafalgar still reveal different construction priorities: French rebuilding emphasized large numbers of similar ships, while Spain concentrated combat power in fewer, larger units. French mass production also drew heavily on timber across Europe, including German forests.
