Chapter · 22:16-25:41

A balanced cruiser built around twelve six-inch guns

The Towns combined a powerful main battery with heavy AA guns, close-range weapons, torpedoes, armor, and useful margins for modification.

Notes

The first Town groups centered on four triple six-inch turrets, while Belfast and Edinburgh were intended to explore four quad mountings before that arrangement proved impractical. Their four-inch secondary battery supplied heavy anti-aircraft fire, backed by pom-poms and machine guns at shorter ranges. Torpedo tubes and meaningful armor added offensive and defensive options beyond the main battery. The result was a balanced rather than narrowly optimized cruiser. Official speed and machinery figures are best treated as guides because individual ships and later modifications could differ substantially.
