Chapter · 26:05-35:52

A torpedo boat is a weight-compromise problem

Redesigning an underperforming torpedo boat exposes the tension between firepower, armor, fittings, and displacement.

Notes

The design screen forces choices between gun caliber, torpedo armament, protection, and the few tons needed to make the hull legal. The boat begins as an acknowledged failure, so operational disappointment drives the redesign. Four-inch, three-inch, and two-inch guns compete with torpedo launchers and even minimal armor for a very small displacement allowance. On a hull this small, every addition takes weight from speed, protection, or another weapon.
