A modern 3-inch battery inside an interwar sloop rule

A time-travel example separates treaty calibre restrictions from the much greater capability of a modern gun.

Notes

The treaty discussion introduces a deliberately anachronistic sloop carrying OTO Melara Super Rapid guns. Under the interpretation offered, the restriction on guns above 3 inches would leave the number of 3-inch weapons unrestricted. Four imagined twin mountings would therefore provide eight barrels without breaching that calibre provision. The accompanying comparison places such a surface battery alongside the depth charges and anti-submarine mortars associated with sloops, making surfacing a dangerous escape for a submarine.
