The lost opportunity of a rebuilt Tiger

A rebuilt Tiger could have offered a fast 14-inch-gun capital ship while the Royal Navy waited for newer construction.

Notes

Retaining Tiger instead of an R-class battleship would give the Royal Navy a fast hull for a major reconstruction. Replacing the 13.5-inch guns with 14-inch weapons would require limited changes around the barbettes, while new machinery could preserve the ship's speed. Improved twin turrets would also provide practical experience with the mounting problems later faced by the King George V class. The rebuilt ship could cover the gap before Vanguard or another new fast battleship entered service.
