A fully armored battlecruiser could have extensive external armor while retaining a battlecruiser's internal arrangement. Tiger's denser construction provides the closer comparison for the design discussed here. More subdivision, thicker internal metalwork, and additional supports allow a hull to carry greater armor weight. The analogy is hanging a heavy mirror: the structure behind the wall must support the load. Assessing the armor therefore also means examining the hull beneath it.

Internal supports determine how much armor a hull can carry
Subdivision and strong internal construction provide support for heavier external armor.
