Tiger approaches the fast battleship from the battlecruiser side

Tiger and the Queen Elizabeth class represent two British routes toward combining battle-line strength with high speed.

Notes

Tiger represents one side of a British design convergence toward the fast battleship. Battlecruisers develop toward Tiger while battleships develop toward the Queen Elizabeth class, producing ships that solve similar speed-and-protection problems from different starting points. Hood looks denser on a simple displacement calculation, but much of her protection was added after Jutland while she was already under construction. Tiger's internal structure was designed as a coherent, heavily built package from the outset. The comparison shows how labels can conceal the fast-battleship qualities of some late battlecruisers.
