Tiger's endurance at 24 knots

Tiger's estimated endurance at high speed complicates comparisons based on nominal cruising range.

Notes

The endurance comparison begins with the large increase from Invincible to Indefatigable and the shorter nominal ranges of Lion and Queen Mary. Figures credited to Parkes put Tiger at about 3,300 nautical miles while sustaining 24 knots, against roughly 2,400 for comparable ships. The quoted calculation uses about 1,200 tons of coal and oil per day at that speed. The initial description of a fifty-percent advantage is corrected to over a third. Extending that proportional advantage to Queen Mary's nominal endurance produces an estimate of roughly 7,400 nautical miles. That last number is an extrapolation in the discussion, rather than a separately quoted trial result.
