Heavier battlecruisers and faster battleships

Two British design paths address the danger posed by enemy battlecruisers to the fleet's leading ships.

Notes

Tiger's design had stabilized before Queen Elizabeth's, despite the projects' overlapping construction. Heavier battlecruisers needed more armour coverage and subdivision to fight other battlecruisers. Faster battleships needed enough speed to stop enemy battlecruisers turning the end of the battle line. These operational demands brought the two types toward a shared balance of speed and protection.
